After delicious breakfast at the hotel proceed to Udawalawe.
The adventure continues to the south-eastern corner of Sri Lanka. Udawalawe National Park, a dry zone area famous for its wide open savannah-like plains.
Visit the Elephant Transit Camp at Udawalawe, run by Sri Lanka’s Wildlife Department. Here, young elephants, mostly jumbos, who have been orphaned or recovering from injuries, are being rehabilitated before being released into the wild.
Early evening set out on a jeep safari into the Udawalawe National Park. According to Wildlife reports there are about 500 elephants in the park and they often roam in herds of up to 100.
The riches within the park do not end there; flocks of sambar deer, wild buffaloes, bandicoots, foxes, water-monitor lizards, crocodiles, sloth bears, the occasional leopards and a wealth of reptiles and birds can also be observed in their natural habitats.
