The Kandyan Manor

Kandy, the former capital of the last Sri Lankan kingdom with a monarchy dating back to nearly 2,500 years, is hallowed as the home of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. ROOMS – The bedrooms are of a high standard, spacious, with carefully chosen decor, soft lighting, cosy linen and fittings, which gives the most relaxing atmosphere to make you feel at home. The tasteful furnishings are made up of traditional Kandyan style antique furniture & collector’s items with accessories that blend with the history of the house in keeping with all modern comfort. The rooms are in the Manor, The Chalets are outside closer to nature built to an eco-friendly concept hidden amidst nature’s beauty.

Day 01

Overnight stay.
Enjoy a Sri Lankan home cooked meal prepared by Suzy. All meals except breakfast are cooked on firewood. Our famous Rice & Curry dinners, String hoppers/Kotthu, Pittu, Coconut Roties come with spicy curries for a tempting and delicious meal to suit your palette.
Dinner is typically served around 7.30pm

Day 02

THE VILLAGE WALK (AM) – A village walk in the vicinity to observe the re-awakening of village life. Also visit the Ambalama, a place where people broke journey and took a rest and spent a night in ancient days; folks also exchanged goods or sale items after befriending each other. Walk through the green paddy fields, see the buffalo ploughing the field or threshing the harvest. Along the way see many different spices grown in the wild, such as: Goraka, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Coffee, Cocoa & Black pepper, and also the big green bamboo and many fruit & valuable timber trees standing proudly in the shrub jungle. An ideal walk for the naturalist, the artist and the bird watcher.
Return to the Manor to refresh and have breakfast

VISITING THE GENERAL MARKET- After breakfast, experience a “TUK TUK” ride to the Manikkumbura General Market. Accompanied by Suzy to pick your choice of vegetables, learn the Sinhala names and the varieties of different types of vegetables that are locally grown by the village folk. Also see the cutting and cleaning of fresh fish for your meal. Meet the Ayurvedic doctor, ask for herbal medicine you may need for the common cold, flu, cough and other minor ailments.
Return to the Manor for preparation of Lunch.

PREPARATION OF LUNCH – Join the kitchen with Suzy, help to cook the lunch. Learn to prepare a complete meal with five curries, cooked on firewood. From scraping the coconut, extracting the milk to pounding of the sambol, using age old tools and methods. Finally, see the preparation of a traditional Sri Lankan Sweet Meat (Halape or Kevum or Kokis or Aluwa) to be enjoyed at evening tea.

DINNER – A BBQ dinner. Enjoy a twilight BBQ meal marinated specially to Bhathiya’s secret recipe. Served with garden- fresh green salad & mashed potato, Pork Chops, Chicken Wings, Pineapple & Sausages, and wind off with a delicious Sunday Ice Cream with Jelly.
(The BBQ dinner is an option)
For those who are vegetarian, they could ask for the vegetarian BBQ meal.
